Regarding the usage of subspecies as the inspecific rank: On preface VIII, paragraph 9, an example is provided: "Avant de nom Antirrhinum majus (treated on p. 232) on trouve entre parentheses les caracteres de deux sous-especes dont 1'une est figurée. Notre plante n'ayant pas ces caracteres est simplement l'Antirrhinum majus type. Les indications entre crochets se rapportent a l'especes collective tout entiere, aussi bien au type qu'aux sous-especes ..." [Within the treatment of A. majus, two subspecies are cited in parenthesis: A. latifolium & A. ruscinonense, which are corrected to: A. majus subsp. latifolium & A. majus subsp. ruscinonense]
