Corbiere (preface iii, last paragraph) mentioned that the names of the species of primary order and of second order or subspecies are set apart in typesetting, and he cited an example pertaining to names of 3 Viola taxa: V. canina and V. odorata, cited in thick bold, are species of the first order, whereas V. lactea, cited in thin bold, is a subspecies under V. canina.
