According to the protologue, the type locality is "near Tawao" (an error?). On p. 2, Merrill listed Elmer's 3 collection trips: Trip 1) Oct-Dec 1921; coll. nos. 20001-20395; vicinity of Batu Lima near Sandakan; Trips 2 & 3) Oct 1922-Mar 1923; Oct 1923; coll. nos. 20396-21919; Headquarters at Tawao, a boundary between British Northern Borneo and Dutch Borneo. For Morinda elmeri, the type coll. no. is: 20114, and this is part of Elmer's trip 1.
