Remarks

[Collected by J. M. Bigelow, on the Whipple Expedition. On 6 Sept. 1853, the expedition made its first camp in Texas (in the Texas Panhandle), just beyond the 100th meridian. On 17 Sept, they crossed the Llano Estacado. The fruiting plant would correspond to this timing. The wording "Elm Creek, Bigelow, Sept. 10/53" (on the white label) would pertain to this specimen, too. There is an Elm Creek (also called Elm Fork) of the Red River in the vicinity.” Annotation on NY specimen by T. A. Zanoni (NY)]
