| Remarks | The leaves are used as cigar/cigarette rolling papers in place of the usual newsprint. The plant is also used in black magic to cure all manner of serious illness as follows: a large stem of katokori is split at the tip into 4 prongs and a small piece of pork is inserted between the splints. The piece of meat is thrust repeatedly into fire and the grease dripped onto salat (Laportea) leaf. The leaf is then rubbed over the skin of the ailing individuals. |
