| Remarks | with Ledum ["Thoreau records going to Owl Swamp, corresponding to the date and location of the Edward Hoar voucher specimen but with no mention of Ledum [Rhododendron groenlandicum] that Hoar records on his label as present with this fern. The Hoar information is puzzling in that, while I verified this fern at this location, Thoreau never mentions it there, and neither he nor Pratt mentions the rare Rhododendron groenlandicum there. Most likely Hoar confuses his collection date with September 6, 1858 when Thoreau notes this fern at Ledum Swamp and was probably also accompanied by Hoar." R. L.
