| Remarks | [“July 11. . . The Circaea alpina, enchanter’s-nightshade, by Corner Spring, low, weed-like, somewhat like touch-me-not leaves. Was it not the C. Lutetiana (a larger plant) that I found at Saw Mill Brook?” Journal 4: 219. 1852
Aug. 13. . .Beck says of the small circaea (C. alpina), ‘Many botanists consider this a mere variety of the preceding.’ I am not sure but is is more deeply toothed than the large. Its leaves are of the same color with those of the large at Bittern Cliff, but more decidedly toothed; q.v. Why does it not grow larger at Corner Spring?” Journal 8: 466. 1856]
