| Remarks | "Near the Clam Shell birch very large a[ster] - miser like asters it is a Great A.[ster] miser ? -- first aspect between A. miser, puniceus (with very small flowers), & undulatus. There is one 3 1/2 feet high spreading 2 1/2 -- but slender -- Others very stout stemmed nearly as much so as the puniceus, The stem reddish quite rough with short hairs -- Cauline leaves 3 or 4 inches long x 1 or 7/8 lanceolate serrate -- rather thick, roughish above somewhat clasping & somewhat pointed -- the other leaves proportionate but quite small on the very diverging branches on some shoots larger & elliptic lanceolate & pointed. Flowers flesh-colored size of a.[ster] dumosus, with disks becoming purplish. Scales of involucre green-lanceolate more or less appressed.
