L. Angelo (in litt.) 18 Jan. 2019. "What I called S.[alix] sericea, I will call the downy catkinned var. of the former [Salix petiolaris, referred to first in the previous paragraph] its leaves become smooth beneath." unpublished passage from Journal Aug. 25, 1857.
